Ledisi joins 'Wanted' Broadway cast

The Grammy Award-winning performer will join Liisi LaFontaine and Solea Pfeiffer in the cast of the new musical, inspired by a true story, starting in October.

Ledisi has joined the cast of the new musical Wanted on Broadway, which begins performances October 15 ahead of a November 8 opening at the James Earl Jones Theatre.

Ledisi is a Grammy Award-winning R&B singer/songwriter, actress, author, and producer who made her Broadway debut in the original 2004 production of Caroline, or Change. In Wanted, she plays Tallulah Clarke, the mother of sisters Martha and Mary Clarke (previously announced stars Liisi LaFontaine and Solea Pfeiffer), who become outlaws in a desperate bid to save Tallulah and their family.

"My first Broadway principal role, and I still can't believe it. I keep thinking about the journey, God's timing, and the importance of legacy," Ledisi said in a statement. "I'm grateful to Angelica Chéri, Ross Baum, Stevie Walker-Webb, and our producers for trusting me with the role of Tallulah, and to my family, friends, and team for giving me the courage to say ‘yes.’ I love being a recording artist, and that will never change. Theatre has always been part of my vision as a storyteller. This isn't a pivot... It's another expansion of me. And I'm just getting started."

Wanted is based on a true story and features a book and lyrics by Angelica Chéri, a descendant of the Clarkes; music by Ross Baum; direction by Stevie Walker-Webb, and choreography by Chelsey Arce.

Additional cast and creative team members have yet to be announced.
