New York City is heating up this June — and we aren’t just talking about the weather! In addition to Knicks watch parties and FIFA World Cup crowds, the city is flush with events to make the most of your summer. There are several annual events taking place this month, including the NYC Pride March and the Puerto Rican Day Parade. Plus, you can enjoy outdoor concerts or, for an air-conditioned option, talkbacks and community celebrations at Broadway shows like Ragtime and Joe Turner’s Come and Gone.

NYC Pride March

Date and venue: June 28 along 5th and 7th Avenues between 26th and 15th Streets

Since 1970, the annual NYC Pride March has taken place in honor of the Stonewall uprising, and it ends in a huge street party on 14th Street by the Stonewall Inn. Expect parade floats, dancers, cheer groups, drag queens, live performances, and so much more.

This year, the Broadway cast of Cats: The Jellicle Ball will kick off the parade — and once you see them dance, strut, and vogue, you’ll want to catch the show for yourself.

Japan Fes

Date and venue: June 27 in Times Square

Taking place around New York City this summer, the annual Japan Fes makes its way to Times Square this June. The mega-food festival, which encompasses a series of worldwide events, offers dozens of vendors serving Japanese street food, from savory fare like onigiri and yakisoba to sweet bites and sips like taiyaki and bubble tea. Head to Times Square from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. to enjoy some bites — they're perfect pre- or post-show snacks.

Puerto Rican Day Parade

Date and venue: June 14 from 44th Street to 79th Street along Fifth Avenue

The annual Puerto Rican Day Parade, one of the largest parades in New York City, takes place on June 14 for its 69th year. The parade celebrates Puerto Rican culture and its influence on the U.S. and the rest of the world, expressed in this year’s theme, "Somos Más Que 100x35" — or, “We Are More Than 100x35,” referring to Puerto Rico’s small geographical size but massive impact.

Daddy Yankee is this year’s Grand Marshal, actress and Miss Universe 1993 Dayanara Torres is the Parade Queen, and Broadway actor Anthony Ramos (Hamilton original cast) will be King.

Joe Turner’s Come and Gone talkbacks

Date and venue: Select dates through July 1 at the Barrymore Theatre

As part of Men’s Mental Health Awareness Month, the Broadway play Joe Turner’s Come and Gone will host a series of talkbacks after performances on June 18, June 23, and July 1. Each talkback will focus on a different theme from the show, including mental health in the Black community, the relationship between memory and trauma, and the power of Black joy. Each discussion will feature a special guest moderator and select cast members.

Ragtime National Immigrant Heritage Month event

Date and venue: June 23 at the Vivian Beaumont Theater

One of Ragtime's three main storylines follows Latvian Jewish immigrant Tateh, who arrives in the U.S. in pursuit of a better life for himself and his daughter. On the evening of June 23, to honor National Immigrant Heritage Month, the Tony Award-winning Broadway revival will host a panel of experts to discuss and celebrate the historical significance of immigration across the country.

Broadway Celebrates Juneteenth

Date and venue: June 19 in Times Square

Broadway stars from 17 shows will headline a free live concert in Times Square in honor of Juneteenth from 4 to 5:30 p.m. that day. High School Musical's Corbin Bleu, who currently stars in The Great Gatsby, will host the event featuring numerous musical numbers and a live orchestra. The event will also honor Debbie Allen, the director of the current Broadway revival of Joe Turner’s Come and Gone, with the 2026 Juneteenth Legacy Award.

Heated Rivalry: The Unauthorized Musical Parody Pride Nights

Date and venue: June 19- 21 at The Culture Club

Calling all Loons! In celebration of Pride Month, you can see the acclaimed Heated Rivalry: The Unauthorized Musical Parody and take part in special events after, including talkbacks with the show’s creative team. Audience members who attend the last Pride Night on June 21 will also have access to a special afterparty at Porchlight Bar. More details are available online.

Hudson Yards free concerts

Date and venue: May 13 to June 3 at Hudson Yards

‘Tis the season for free outdoor performances. Every Wednesday evening from May 13 to June 3, Hudson Yards will host a free concert: Aly & AJ on May 13, Warren G on May 20, Busta Rhymes on May 27, and Jordin Sparks on June 3. Doors open at 5 p.m., and the music starts at 6 p.m. Learn more online.

Today Citi Concert Series

Date and venue: May 22 to September 25 at Rockefeller Place

The Today Show’s annual concert series kicks off on May 22, with free morning concerts throughout the summer. The 2026 lineup includes artists like Bleachers, Maren Morris, Tyla, KATSEYE, and Brandi Carlile. Attendees should show up by 5:15 a.m. on the day of the concert, but you can also register in advance for your chance to win up to four Fan Passes for guaranteed entry. Central Park Summerstage concerts

Date and venue: May 30 to October 1 at Central Park’s Rumsey Playfield

Central Park’s annual Summerstage festival kicks off this month, offering dozens of free performances across the five boroughs, with the main Central Park series happening at Rumsey Playfield. Some of the free concerts include summer recitals from The Metropolitan Opera and musicians and bands like Mavis Staples, Spoon, and more, plus paid benefit concerts from Yellowcard, Simple Plan, Myles Smith, and more. Bryant Park yoga

Date and venue: May 27 to September 16 at Bryant Park

Bring your mat and head to Bryant Park for free yoga classes throughout the summer. Every Tuesday at 10 a.m. and Wednesday at 6 p.m. there will be an instructor-led yoga class on the lawn, open to all levels. Date and venue: June 3-14 at various cinemas

The 2026 Tribeca Festival kicks off this month with a diverse range of feature films, documentaries, short films, and more. Covering politics, social issues, historical events, and more, the movies featured will tackle a variety of topics, alongside a series of talks from prominent filmmakers and storytellers. Lincoln Center Contemporary Dance Festival

Date and venue: June 18 to July 5 at Lincoln Center

As part of Lincoln Center’s Summer for the City event series, the Contemporary Dance Festival will feature performances from five dance companies from around the world. These diverse companies will explore topics from the climate crisis to the African roots of flamenco dance. Professional dancers can also take part in special workshops during the festival. Jim Henson's Creature Shop tours

Date and venue: Saturdays at Jim Henson’s Creature Shop in Long Island City

Previously closed to the public, the Jim Henson Creature Shop is opening its doors this summer to limited tours. The workshop is behind some of the most famous puppets in history, from The Muppets to the residents of Sesame Street and Fraggle Rock.

Guests will learn about the history of the Creature Shop, experience a demonstration with a Henson puppeteer, meet a puppet builder, and get photo ops with some of these well-known characters. More information and tickets are available online.

Craft of Broadway Puppetry exhibit at the Museum of Broadway

Date and venue: Starting May 21 at the Museum of Broadway

The newest exhibit at the Museum of Broadway will focus on the 2023 play The Life of Pi, displaying many of the animal puppets used in the production, along with puppets from other shows, like Avenue Q's Trekkie Monster and Frozen's Olaf. Visitors can look at concept drawings, prototypes, and videos, and explore a recreated puppet workshop to see every step of the design process.

Stranger Things: The First Shadow cocktail at the Marriott Marquis

Date and venue: Through June 30 at the Marriott Marquis Broadway Lounge

If you're a Stranger Things fan, head to the Marriott Marquis in Times Square for a special opportunity. CityPickle at Wollman Rink

Date and venue: April 21 through fall at Wollman Rink in Central Park

Trade your ice skates in for sneakers, because the Wollman Rink in Central Park is transforming into a huge spread of outdoor pickleball courts. Opening April 21, the Wollman Rink pickleball courts will be bookable from 8 a.m to 9 p.m. daily, and reservations start at $80 an hour. Mamma Mia! brunch

Date and venue: Sundays through July 19 at Ellen’s Stardust Diner

Mamma mia, here we go again — to brunch! The famous Ellen’s Stardust Diner, featuring singing waitstaff, is kicking off a ticketed brunch event inspired by the hit musical. Hear your favorite Mamma Mia! tunes while enjoying themed dishes liked “Gimme, Gimme, Gimme Chicken + Waffles” and “Chiquitita Chilaquilies.” Tickets are available online.

Lotte New York Palace ‘Phantom’-inspired stays

Date and venue: Ongoing at Lotte New York Palace

To celebrate the popularity of Masquerade, the immersive Phantom of the Opera experience, the Lotte New York Palace hotel is offering two packages inspired by the show.

The Masquerade package provides guests with custom-made masks and a note from a mysterious host, inviting them to drinks in the Gold Room hotel bar. The Royal Masquerade package includes a stay in the hotel’s Towers Suites, complete with a dozen red roses and other surprises.

Smorgasburg Central Park

Date and venue: Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday near Columbus Circle

For the first time, the popular Smorgasburg food fair heads to upper Manhattan with its newest Central Park location. Every Thursday, Friday, and Saturday this summer, starting May 14, over 25 vendors will set up shop near the Columbus Circle park entrance from 12-8 p.m.

The vendors are yet to be confirmed. However, based on the other Smorgasburg locations, you can expect everything from sweet treats to savory bites — and definitely some viral food moments.

Free Shakespeare in the Park

Date and venue: May 22 to June 28; July 25 to August 23 at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park

With over 60 years of delivering free Shakespeare shows to New York City, The Public Theater's Free Shakespeare in the Park is back for its summer season. Romeo & Juliet will run from May 22 to June 28, followed by The Winter’s Tale from July 25 to August 23. There are several ways to get your hands on free tickets, including at in-person distribution stations in all five boroughs and through a TodayTix digital lottery.

Rooftop Cinema Club Love Is Love Series

Date and venue: Ongoing through June at Rooftop Cinema Club Midtown Manhattan

Kick off Pride Month with Rooftop Cinema Club’s Love Is Love film series, including Hedwig and the Angry Inch, based on the John Cameron Mitchell and Stephan Trask musical, and To Wong Foo, Thanks for Everything! Julie Newmar, a ‘90s comedy about drag queens.

They’re also hosting a Queens of Camp series throughout June, with even more cult favorites like Death Becomes Her and Jennifer’s Body.

Act Black: Posters from Black American Stage & Screen exhibit at Poster House

Date and venue: Through September 6 at Poster House

The Act Black: Posters from Black American Stage & Screen Exhibit showcases a variety of posters used in Black storytelling, stretching back to the late 19th century. Because the only evidence of many Black plays from the late 1800s and early 1900s exists in posters, the exhibit highlights the historic significance of these posters and how Black creators transitioned from the stage to film. Flower Power at the New York Botanical Garden

Date and venue: May 23 to October 18 at the New York Botanical Garden

The New York Botanical Garden is getting groovy. The Flower Power exhibition channels the hippie culture of the of the ‘60s and connection with the natural world. Concurrently, an Art of the Era exhibit showcases paintings, photographs, screen prints, and collages by artists from the '60s and '70s that celebrate peace and love.

26.

Roberto Lugo: “Alfarero del Barrio (Village Potter)”

Date and venue: May 20 to December 6 in Madison Square Park

Madison Square Park’s latest art installation comes from Philadelphia-based artist Roberto Lugo, known for his ceramic sculptures, often inspired by the history of ceramics and Puerto Rican culture, hip-hop, and graffiti.

The two sculptures he’s created for the park are a 20-foot-tall urn that nods to traditional ceramics and a 15-foot-tall fire hydrant, a nod to urban environments. There are also hand-painted planters filled with plants native to Puerto Rico and domino tables that anyone can use.

Inspired by MetroCard exhibit

Date and venue: Through October at Grand Central Transit Museum

Although the MetroCard has been phased out, it lives on at Grand Central’s Transit Museum — but probably not in the way you expect. The free Inspired by MetroCard exhibit at Grand Central features art inspired by and created with MetroCards. Sculptors, painters, collage artists, fashion designers, and more turned this once ordinary part of NYC daily life into gorgeous works of art. Learn more online.

Visit the MoMA PS1 for free

Date and venue: Now through 2028 at MoMA PS1

For the first time, all visitors, not just New Yorkers, can go to the MoMA PS1 for free. Just a short 7 train ride from Times Square, the Queens art museum, an offshoot of the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in Midtown, highlights rotating exhibits throughout the year.
