
John Ortiz stars as Detective Fucco in Dog Day Afternoon at the August Wilson Theatre from March 10, 2026.
Ortiz earned Independent Spirit Award and Gotham Award nominations for starring in Philip Seymour Hoffman's film Jack Goes Boating; he previously earned a Drama Desk Award nomination for starring in Hoffman's play of the same name. He earned additional Drama Desk nominations for starring in Jesus Hopped the A Train and directing Halfway Bitches Go Straight to Heaven, both by Dog Day playwright Stephen Adly Guirgis.
As co-founder of LAByrinth Theater Company with Hoffman, Ortiz was involved in numerous Off-Broadway productions as artistic director, director, and/or a performer.
On screen, Ortiz received accolades for acting in Silver Linings Playbook (Gotham Award, MTV Movie Award nominations), American Gangster (SAG Award nomination), Bad Monkey (Imagen Award nomination), Luck (Imagen Award nomination), and Little America (Imagen Award). Other film roles include Guajiro in Carlito's Way, Victor Nieves in Kong: Skull Island, and Arthur in American Fiction.
