Linklater is known for playing Matthew Kimble in The New Adventures of Old Christine, Andrew Keanelly in The Crazy Ones, and Clark Debussy in Legion. Additional screen credits include The Big Short, Fargo, and The Newsroom.

He is also a prolific Off-Broadway actor, winning an Obie Award and earning Outer Critics Circle and Lucille Lortel Award nominations for The School of Lies. He has also starred in multiple Shakespeare plays, including Cymbeline, Much Ado About Nothing, The Merchant of Venice, The Comedy of Errors, and Twelfth Night (Drama Desk Award nomination).
