Vineyard Theatre sets initial productions in 2025-26 Off-Broadway season

The season will include two world-premiere productions at the nonprofit theatre company's Union Square venue, with a third show to be announced soon.

Vineyard Theatre has named two of the three productions in its upcoming 2025-26 season, both of which are world-premiere plays to be presented at the theatre company's venue in Union Square.

The Burning Cauldron of Fiery Fire, written by Anne Washburn and directed by Steve Cosson, is Vineyard's fall 2025 show, presented as a co-production with The Civilians. The show about a death, a pageant, a rescue, a resurrection, pigs, and saying grace takes place in foggy Northern California, where a community tries to live off the land and keep an unsteady world at bay. But when one of their own unexpectedly dies, it tests their ideals and their faith in their independence.

Washburn and Cosson previously collaborated on the critically acclaimed Mr. Burns, A Post Electric Play and A Devil at Noon.

In spring 2026, Vineyard and American Conservatory Theater will co-produce ||: Girls :||: Chance :||: Music :|| by Eisa Davis. Pam MacKinnon directs the play about four gifted teenagers at a prestigious girls’ music program in Berkeley, who form close connections as they must also adapt to an outside world of disaster. This coming-of-age play features a live score with elements unique to each performance.

A third production, slated for winter 2026, will be announced for Vineyard's season at a later date. Exact performance dates, casting, and additional creative team information for both announced productions are also yet to come.
