Sophia Anne Caruso to star in 'Memoirs of Amorous Gentlemen' off Broadway

The Beetlejuice Broadway star will play the lead role of Colette in the new musical adaptation of the same-named Japanese manga starting in September.

Sophia Anne Caruso will star in Memoirs of Amorous Gentlemen off Broadway this fall, running at the Night Egg at the Culture Club from September 25 to January 3. Opening night is October 15.

Caruso is best known for originating the role of Lydia Deetz in Beetlejuice on Broadway. Other credits include Blackbird and Grey House on Broadway, The Nether and Lazarus off Broadway, and the Netflix film The School for Good and Evil.

In Amorous Gentlemen, she stars as Colette, a young writer working at a Parisian maison and turning the deepest fantasies and sorrows of her clients into art, while also grappling with her own troubled attachment to her childhood love, Léon.

Memoirs of Amorous Gentlemen is based on Moyoco Anno's same-named Japanese manga, and it is the first manga to be adapted into an American musical. The stage show has music and lyrics by Tony and Grammy Award winner Duncan Sheik, a book by Leah Nanako Winkler, and direction and choreography by Tony, Olivier, and Emmy Award winner Rob Ashford.

The production also has set design by Scott Pask, costume design by Catherine Zuber, lighting design by Brian Tovar, sound design by Cody Spencer, and hair and wig design by Tom Watson. Music supervision and vocal and incidental music arrangements are by Or Matias.
