New play 'Invasive Species' to premiere off Broadway
The play reunites Tony Award nominee Jeremy O. Harris as producer and Pulitzer Prize finalist Michael Breslin alongside assistant director Louisa Jacobson.
They're invading the theatre! After a 2023 world premiere at The Tank, Maia Novi's play Invasive Species will play a limited eight-week engagement off Broadway at Vineyard Theatre's Dimson Theater. The show runs from May 7 to June 30 and opens on May 15.
The show is executive produced by Jeremy O. Harris, who wrote the record-setting, Tony Award-nominated play Slave Play; directed by Michael Breslin, and assistant directed by The Gilded Age's Louisa Jacobson.
Harris and Breslin reunite following their 2020 collaboration on the virtual multimedia play Circle Jerk, which was nominated for the 2021 Pulitzer Prize for Drama.
Their cast for Invasive Species includes Novi, Raffi Donatich, Sam Gonzalez, Alexandra Maurice, and Julian Sanchez. The creative team features lighting designer Yichen Zhou, costume designer Cole McCarty, sound designers and composers Jessie Char and Maxwell Neely-Cohen, and movement director Beth Gill.
All return from the 2023 premiere.
Invasive Species is a dark comedy based on a true story. The show follows an Argentinean actor who immigrates to the U.S., playing the role of a lifetime as they say and do whatever is necessary to achieve their American Dream.
