The cult classic musical began performances June 22 and was originally scheduled to play at New World Stages through September 28. The same venue was also home to the world premiere of the Heathers musical, adapted from the 1989 Winona Ryder/Christian Slater movie, in 2014.
Heathers is a dark comedy about high school nobody Veronica as she gets catapulted into the school's popular clique, the Heathers, while also falling for mysterious new kid J.D. — who teaches her that it kills to be a somebody.
The main Off-Broadway Heathers cast includes Lorna Courtney as Veronica Sawyer, Casey Likes as Jason “J.D.” Dean, McKenzie Kurtz as Heather Chandler, Olivia Hardy as Heather Duke, Elizabeth Teeter as Heather McNamara, Tony Award nominee Kerry Butler as Ms. Fleming/Veronica’s Mom, Erin Morton as Martha Dunnstock, Xavier McKinnon as Ram Sweeney, Cade Ostermeyer as Kurt Kelly, Ben Davis as Ram’s Dad/Big Bud Dean/Coach Ripper, and Cameron Loyal as Kurt’s Dad/Veronica’s Dad/Principal Gowan.
As previously announced, Kuhoo Verma will star as Veronica from December 11, and Jodie Steele and Kiara Michelle Lee have temporarily assumed the roles of Heather Chandler and Heather Duke, respectively, while Kurtz and Hardy take leaves of absence.
