The Buena Vista Social Club musical tells a dramatized history of the same-named Cuban music group, composed of retired singers and instrumentalists who reunited to record an album of golden-age Cuban dance music. The show jumps back and forth between their 1990s recording sessions, which resulted in a Grammy-winning album that became a global phenomenon, and the 1950s, when the musicians' early careers and relationships were upended by the Cuban Revolution.
Following a hit Off-Broadway premiere in 2023, the show transferred to Broadway in spring 2025 and won four competitive Tony Awards — including Best Featured Actress in a Musical for Natalie Venetia Belcon — and a special award for its band.
Alongside Belcon as Omara Portuondo, the cast includes Julio Monge as Compay, Mel Semé as Ibrahim, Jainardo Batista Sterling as Rubén, Isa Antonetti as Young Omara, Da’von Moody as Young Compay, Wesley Wray as Young Ibrahim, Leonardo Reyna as Young Rubén, Renesito Avich as Eliades, Ashley De La Rosa as Young Haydee, and Justin Cunningham as Juan de Marcos.
