Moulin Rouge! The Musical will play its final Broadway performance on July 26, nearly seven years to the day after its opening at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre on July 25, 2019. At the time of closing, the show will have played 2,289 total performances, making it the 36th-longest-running show in Broadway history.
Moulin Rouge! The Musical is adapted from Baz Luhrmann's same-named movie musical about a writer and a showgirl who fall into a star-crossed romance at the title Paris nightclub. The stage show features a score that incorporates over 70 pop hits from the 1940s to the 2010s.
In 2021, Moulin Rouge! won 10 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Direction of a Musical (for Alex Timbers), Best Choreography (for Sonya Tayeh), and more. It went on to become the highest-grossing production in the history of the Hirschfeld.
The current Moulin Rouge! The Musical Broadway cast features Meg Donnelly as Satine, Christian Douglas as Christian, Bob the Drag Queen as Harold Zidler (through March 22), David Harris as The Duke of Monroth, André Ward as Toulouse-Lautrec, Ricky Rojas as Santiago, and Samantha Dodemaide as Nini.
