There’s only one way in and out of Schmigadoon: a bridge that connects to the outside world. Central Park, a beloved 843-acre green space in Manhattan, features its own distinctive bridges. A true beauty is Bow Bridge, which was built in 1862 and spans 60 feet across Central Park Lake near Bethesda Terrace. It’s a prime spot for photos as you stroll through the park.

You won’t have to butter anyone up to stop by Schmackary's, a Theatre District bakery famous for over 60 rotating cookie flavors, many of which are inspired by Broadway shows.

Schmigadoon!'s title riffs on Brigadoon, and Schmackary's is a similarly playful twist on the name of founder and owner Zachary Schmahl. The bakery — which also offers ice cream and other non-cookie desserts — is a go-to spot in the theatre community, and there’s also a Union Square branch.

Corn puddin’ is a tasty specialty in Schmigadoon that is, as residents sing, “good for the soul.” It’s a game-changer that inspires Melissa to sing with the locals for the first time. “I sure would like a taste,” she belts.

If you also want a taste, you'll get pretty close at Miss Mamie’s Spoonbread Too. The restaurant serves homestyle soul food like fried chicken, collard greens, cornbread, and spoonbread — which, by the way, is a traditional Southern dish described as a cross between cornbread and a savory custard.

Josh gets an invaluable lesson in life and love from Schmigadoon schoolmarm Emma Tate — in the form of a musical number, of course. New York City is also filled with ways to get smarter while having fun.

Brooklyn Brainery is a community learning space offering affordable adult classes on almost anything: cooking, art, crafts, history, tarot, you name it. It’s a 5-to-10 minute walk from the 2/3 or B/Q subway lines.

Schmigadoon operates like a Golden Age musical, and Melissa and Josh marvel as townies spontaneously burst into song and dance all around them.

Get a similar experience at Ellen’s Stardust Diner, a retro-themed Theatre District restaurant famous for its singing waitstaff, The Stardusters. They belt “all day from open to close” (that is, from 7 a.m. to midnight), per the diner's official site.

Enjoy casual American fare like burgers, salads, and shakes with a side of Broadway showtunes. Ellen’s doesn’t take reservations and often has a line, so factor extra time into your schedule.
