Laura Linney will return to Broadway in spring 2027 in Montauk, a world-premiere play written by David Hare and directed by Daniel Sullivan. Manhattan Theatre Club will present the production at its Samuel J. Friedman Theatre, with exact dates to be announced.

Linney is a four-time Emmy Award winner (Wild Iris, John Adams, The Big C, Frasier) and five-time Tony nominee. She has appeared in over a dozen Broadway shows, including four directed by Sullivan: Summer, 1976; The Little Foxes; Time Stands Still; and Sight Unseen.

Hare is the Oscar-nominated screenwriter of the films The Hours and The Reader, and he also earned Tony nominations for his Broadway plays Plenty, Racing Demon, and Skylight.

Montauk, his newest play, follows two artists with violently different approaches to art and life: Jared Speight, a Long Island abstract artists, and star writer Roxy Margaux (Linney). Over a decade, they become entangled romantically and professionally, revealing the true motives behind the art they make.

Additional cast and creative team members have yet to be announced.

Already announced for Manhattan Theatre Club's 2026-27 season are the Broadway premiere of Jocelyn Bioh's School Girls; Or, The African Mean Girls Play, directed by Whitney White, and the Off-Broadway premiere of Nick Payne's The Unbelievers, directed by Knud Adams. Both will take place in fall 2026 ahead of Montauk in the spring.

In addition to joining Montauk, Linney has also been named MTC's inaugural artist-in-residence. She will work on developing projects for future MTC seasons and participate in the nonprofit's community outreach and educational programs.
