Get Proof tickets when they go on sale on New York Theatre Guide to see this starry revival of the Tony Award-winning play with Ayo Edebiri and Don Cheadle. Proof plays for a limited run only this spring in a new production directed by Tony Award winner Thomas Kail (Hamilton), who produces alongside Mike Bosner.
Don't miss Proof on Broadway, the first revival since the play won the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award for Best Play following its acclaimed 2000 premiere. In David Auburn's popularly produced drama, Edebiri plays Catherine, daughter to a University of Chicago professor and world-class mathematician, Robert (Cheadle). When Robert dies, Catherine reunites with her older, all-business sister and argues, before her and Robert's old student, that it was she, not her father, who came up with a paradigm-shifting proof about prime numbers. The play explores the complexity of sisterhood, legacy, and female assertion in a male-dominated field.
Proof became an instant hit following its 2000 premiere at Manhattan Theatre Club and now returns to New York City. The show also offers plum stage role for two of today's biggest entertainment icons: Edebiri is has won Golden Globe, Emmy, and SAG awards for her turn on The Bear, and Cheadle is an Academy Award nominee for Hotel Rwanda, a Tony Award winner for producing A Strange Loop, and a multi-Emmy Award nominee for his many TV credits.
As father and daughter in this award-winning play, the two stars bring a lot of wattage to the stage. The show, originally starring Mary-Louise Parker, became a film with Gwyneth Paltrow. Now, Edebiri comes to Broadway at the same time as her The Bear co-stars, Jon Bernthal and Ebon Moss-Bachrach, who star in Dog Day Afternoon. Tickets to Proof in New York will be available here soon.
