A Broadway musical, co-written by Parton and charting her life, was already in the works prior to her passing. Now, Dolly: A True Original Musical will serve as an especially personal tribute to Parton as an artist and a human being. Directed by Bartlett Sher (To Kill a Mockingbird, Camelot) and featuring three leading ladies playing Parton at different stages of her life, the show will start performances December 7 and open January 19, which would have been Parton’s 81st birthday.
