Can I Be Frank?, Morgan Bassichis's critically acclaimed play based on original material by the late comedian and performance artist Frank Maya, will return to the SoHo Playhouse off Broadway this summer following its premiere in summer 2025. Performances will run from May 21 to June 27 only.

Directed by 2025 Tony Award winner Sam Pinkleton (Oh, Mary!), Can I Be Frank? follows Bassichis as they showcase Maya's legacy as a queer comedian, musician, and performance artist. The show won 2025 Obie Awards for playwriting and directing.

"Can I Be Frank? is a delightful and insightful jaunt through gay comedy history that shows off Bassichis’s range as a comedian and performer," New York Theatre Guide's review reads.

"I am so excited to bring this show back and I apologize in advance for any sponsored ads with my face you will be forced to endure,” said Bassichis in a statement. “Please come — it will be a perfect first or last date!”
