Betrayal, starring Tom Hiddleston, Charlie Cox & Zawe Ashton, begins performances on Broadway
The Broadway transfer of Betrayal is set for an official opening at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre on September 5, 2019.
Golden Globe and Olivier Award winner Tom Hiddleston and his co-stars Charlie Cox and Zawe Ashton all make their Broadway debuts tonight as the critically acclaimed London production of the Harold Pinter classic Betrayal, directed by Olivier Award winner Jamie Lloyd, begins performances at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre. The production is scheduled to run through December 8, 2019, with an official opening set for September 5.
Synopsis: "With poetic precision, rich humor, and an extraordinary emotional force, Betrayal charts a compelling seven-year romance, thrillingly captured in reverse chronological order, and explores the complexities of the human heart."
Hiddleston, Cox, and Ashton are reprising their respective roles of Robert, Jerry and Emma from the West End revival, which played an extended, sold-out run at the Harold Pinter Theatre from March 5 through June 8, 2019, and broke all box office records. Directed Jamie Lloyd previously commented: "Watching this remarkable cast bring new life to Harold Pinter's greatest work has been one of the most gratifying and exciting experiences of my life in the theater. I am thrilled that American audiences will have the chance to witness their stunning performances."
The Broadway creative team also features scenic & costume design by Soutra Gilmour, lighting design by Jon Clark, and sound design & original music by Ben and Max Ringham.
Tom Hiddleston's other London stage credits include The Changeling, Cymbeline, Othello, Ivanov, The Children's Monologues, The Kingdom of Earth, Coriolanus, and Hamlet. He is, of course, best known for his movie role as Loki in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and his other most notable screen credits include his Golden Globe-winning and Emmy-nominated performance in "The Night Manager," as well as "Early Man," "Kong: Skull Island," " Crimson Peak," "Muppets Most Wanted," and "War Horse."
Charlie Cox was last seen on the New York stage in Manhattan Theatre Club's Off-Broadway production of Incognito in 2016, earning his first Lucille Lortel Award nomination. He has also appeared on the London stage in 'Tis Pity She's a Whore, The Collection, and as the titular role in The Prince of Homburg. He is perhaps best known for his Marvel Cinematic Universe role as Daredevil and as Owen Sleater on HBO's "Boardwalk Empire." He has also starred in such films as "Stardust," "The Theory of Everything," and "Casanova."
Zawe Ashton rose to fame in the UK as Violet "Vod" Nordstrom in the hit comedy series "Fresh Meat" in 2011. Her other notable screen credits include "Not Safe for Work," "St Trinian's 2: The Legend of Fritton's Gold," "Blitz," "Nocturnal Animals," and "Velvet Buzzsaw." Her many London stage credits include The Maids, Splendour, and a number of Royal Court and Shakespeare's Globe productions, among others.
Betrayal is produced on Broadway by Ambassador Theatre Group, Benjamin Lowy Productions, Glass Half Full Productions, and Gavin Kalin Productions.
