One of Broadway's foremost leading men, Esparza is a four-time Tony Award nominee for Taboo, Company, The Homecoming, and Speed-the-Plow on Broadway, earning nominations in all four male acting categories. He is also an eight-time Drama Desk nominee, winning three times for Taboo, Company, and The Homecoming, and a Theatre World Award winner for The Rocky Horror Show. He has appeared in over a dozen Broadway shows total and is also known to TV audiences as New York Assistant District Attorney Rafael Barba in Law & Order: SVU.
