Se Grammy Award winner Jennifer Nettles in this dazzling new musical directed by Tony Award winner Mary Zimmerman. Giulia: The Poison Queen of Palermo the musical is a larger-than-life tale about a larger-than-life but real, historical figure: the famed woman Giulia Tofana who started an underground poison network in Italy. What began as an act of self-defense quickly grew into a powerful sisterhood — but one that also brought about much danger and scrutiny.
Giulia: The Poison Queen of Palermo off Broadway brings Zimmerman back to the stage, features choreography by Austin McCormick, and introduces Nettles as a new musical theatre force: known for her strong voice and cover of Bon Jovi's 2006 single "Who Says You Can't Go Home", she's not only in this show but also wrote its soulful, contemporary score. Playing at PAC NYC for a limited run this summer, Giulia: The Poison Queen of Palermo is a thrilling musical about intrigue, self-defense, and the ties that bond.
In Giulia: The Poison Queen of Palermo, the power lies in Giulia's hands, one drop at a time. Learn about a renegade woman whose act of self-defense became a sensational scandal. An attempt to grant other women safety cast its own spell of intrigue and danger.
PAC NYC is known for its diverse programming: from month-long festivals from Under the Radar and National Queer Theatre to major productions like CATS: The Jellicle Ball, the downtown theatre is a new venue for audacious programming. This new musical meets that boldness: featuring a modern score about a woman who was ahead of her time, Giulia: The Poison Queen of Palermo is a daring theatrical event that is not to be missed.
