Tom Sturridge, Brian d'Arcy James join Michelle Williams in 'Anna Christie' off Broadway
St. Ann's Warehouse will present Eugene O’Neill’s award-winning play starting in November, with Sturridge replacing previously announced star Mike Faist.
Tom Sturridge and Brian d'Arcy James will join Emmy winner and five-time Oscar nominee Michelle Williams in the cast of Anna Christie off Broadway, running at St. Ann's Warehouse in Brooklyn from November 25 to February 1.
Alongside Williams (Fosse/Verdon, The Fabelmans, The Greatest Showman) in the title role will be five-time Tony nominee James (Days of Wine and Roses, Into the Woods, Something Rotten!) as Anna's father, Chris Christopherson, and two-time Tony nominee Sturridge (Sea Wall/A Life, Orphans) as Mat Burke, Anna's lover. Sturridge replaces the previously announced Mike Faist, who has withdrawn from the production.
Additional Anna Christie casting has yet to be announced.
Winner of the 1922 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Eugene O'Neill's Anna Christie follows the title character, a former prostitute, as she reunites with her father and finds new romance — but her past still looms large as she tries to rebuild her life. Tony winner Thomas Kail (Hamilton) directs.
Anna Christie also features set design by Christine Jones and Brett Banakis, costume design by Paul Tazewell, lighting design by Natasha Katz, sound design by Nevin Steinberg, movement and fight choreography by Steven Hoggett, and music by Nicholas Britell.
