‘The Sound Inside’ to be adapted into audio play

Mary-Louise Parker will reprise her Tony Award-nominated performance.

After a 2019 engagement at Studio 54, The Sound Inside will be adapted into an audio play, it has been announced. Mary-Louise Parker and Will Hochman will reprise their performances once more, available to download from March 18.

Adam Rapp's play follows Bella, a tenured professor and a student named Christopher. Immediately, they become close with one another when it's discovered Christopher is somewhat of a young prodigy. Drawn to one another, they write each other's stories, but when Bella asks Christopher to do the unthinkable, Christopher must decide whether to change his life.

The Sound Inside began previews at Studio 54 on Sept. 14, 2019, ahead of an opening night on October 17. The production ran for four months, closing on Jan. 12, 2020. In a review for New York Theatre Guide, Mark Shenton said: "Few plays are more monochrome than this highly articulate yet intentionally dark piece, both in its moodily atmospheric staging, and also in the deliberate, slow unfolding of its drama. It demands and repays close attention."

Eligible for the 2020 Tony Awards, The Sound Inside is currently nominated for six Tony Awards including Best Play. Details on the ceremony date for the 2020 Tony Awards are to be announced.

The Sound Inside will be released on Audible this spring. Other releases include performances from Tony winners Laura Benanti, Tony Shalhoub and Santino Fontana and Brutal Imagination, seen off-Broadway in 2002.

The Sound Inside is available from March 18.
