Robin meets Dougal at John F. Kennedy Airport in Queens to take him to his hotel on Canal Street in Manhattan. He confuses Queens for Times Square along the way.

Make no mistake, Times Square is a bustling entertainment district in Midtown Manhattan. A magnet for visitors, it’s packed with storied theatres, giant marquees, shops, restaurants, and nonstop energy. If you're new to NYC like Dougal, take some time before or after the show to check it out.

Melissa sends Robin and Dougal to pick up the wedding cake, a task frosted with complications. Indulging your own sweet tooth in NYC is really a piece of, well, cake — here are three places to try, all with various locations.

• Culture Espresso: This shop specializes in coffee drinks and amazing cookies. Try its official collaboration with Two Strangers: a cakelike red velvet and white chocolate cookie inspired by Robin.
• Junior’s: This Times Square diner is legendary for its rich, creamy New York-style cheesecake.
• Magnolia Bakery: Sex and the City made its vanilla cupcake world-famous. Its cake slices, mini cheesecakes, and banana pudding are also popular.

The wedding is in December, so Dougal and Robin go ice skating at Rockefeller Center as part of their adventure.

That famous activity is seasonal, but there are things to see and do at Rockefeller Center all year. Check out the famous Prometheus and Atlas statues, NBC Studios tour, the Top of the Rock observation deck, and neighboring Radio City Music Hall, along with plenty of shops and restaurants.

Dougal’s list of must-see NYC sights is based on movies like Ghostbusters 2 and Independence Day, in which the famous Lady with the Lamp is key.

Dougal doesn't get to see the Statue of Liberty on his trip, but you can visit it for him. Take a ticketed ferry from Battery Park to Liberty and Ellis Islands for a close-up look, or glimpse them from the free Staten Island Ferry, which takes about 25 minutes to cross New York Harbor each way.

After a whirlwind night of eating, drinking, and overspending (with Mark's credit card), Robin and Dougal crash in a suite at the Plaza Hotel.

Now 119 years old, the Plaza, overlooking Central Park, is synonymous with luxury. It’s been featured on screen in Home Alone 2, The Way We Were, and Sex and the City, so pop by to gawk. You can soak up the architecture and window-shop for free, or treat yourself to a deluxe meal at the Palm Court. The restaurant's famous afternoon tea is $129 per person.

Mark and Melissa’s wedding happens at this 329-year-old church, but you don’t have to be a wedding guest to tour it.

Trinity Church is a Lower Manhattan landmark famous for its gorgeous Gothic revival architecture, soaring spire, and churchyard containing the graves of luminaries like Founding Father Alexander Hamilton — who, of course, inspired his own hit musical.

Late in the show, Robin and Dougal share noodles, dumplings, and a touching heart-to-heart at a hot pink Chinese restaurant. The scene comes to life as the set, built out of massive suitcases, totally transforms.

You can recreate this scene in Chinatown, which is packed with delicious Chinese restaurants. The Nom Wah Tea Parlor is a historic neighborhood favorite for dim sum, and Easy Joy Dim Sum & AYCE Hot Pot is another popular option among many.

Robin and Dougal’s bond grows as they go to various NYC neighborhoods. Rather than hopping all over the city, consider spending a whole day or afternoon touring one of these areas that come up in the show.

• East Village: Robin lives and works in this artsy, bohemian neighborhood. Check out Tompkins Square Park and, for a sweet treat, the 132-year-old Veniero's Pastry.
• Tribeca: Mark and Melissa live in this upscale and chic area with cobblestone streets and Hudson River views.
• Hudson Yards: Mark works in this super-sleek, modern area built up in 2019. Climb an an architectural installation called the Vessel, go shopping at the mall, and check out a show or art exhibit at The Shed.
• Prospect Heights, Brooklyn: Robin takes Dougal to her old Brooklyn neighborhood to get her sister's wedding cake, pointing out the Brooklyn Public Library, where their grandmother took them to read. Other attractions near the flagship location in Grand Army Plaza include Prospect Park, the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and the Brooklyn Museum.

After whipping up a day inspired by Dougal and Robin, the icing on the cake is seeing Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York) at the Longacre Theatre. Nominated for eight Tony Awards including Best Musical, the richly layered Cake will carry you away.
