King Princess, Juliana Canfield, Emily Skinner, more in 'Girl, Interrupted' Off-Broadway cast

Aimee Mann and Martyna Majok's stage adaptation of Susanna Kaysen's novel and the 1999 film will play a limited run at The Public Theater starting in May.

The Public Theater has set casting for its upcoming production of Girl, Interrupted off Broadway, a new play with music running from May 13 to June 21. Opening night is June 4.

The cast includes Ta’Rea Campbell as Valerie, Gabi Campo as Tori, Juliana Canfield as Susanna, Manoel Felciano as Man/Musician, King Princess as Lisa, Mia Pak as Grace, Katherine Reis as Daisy, Sally Shaw as Polly, Emily Skinner as Dr. Wick, and Lauren Jeanne Thomas as Judy/Musician. Leela Bassuk, Eileen Doan, Gunnar Manchester, Anna Roman, and Rachel Stern are understudies.

Girl, Interrupted the experiences of teenager Susanna in a psychiatric ward, where she forms unexpected bonds with the other young women as they seek a way forward. The stage show is adapted from Susanna Kaysen's 1993 memoir, which also inspired the same-named 1999 film.

Girl, Interrupted off Broadway features a book by Martyna Majok, music by Aimee Mann from her 2021 album Queens of the Summer Hotel, direction by Jo Bonney, choreography by Sonya Tayeh, scenic design by dots, costume design by Sarah Laux, lighting design by Heather Gilbert, sound design and composition by Dan Moses Schreier, hair and wig design by J. Jared Janas, prop management by Claire M. Kavanah, orchestrations and music supervision by Todd Almond, and music direction by Andrea Grody.
