John Krasinski to star in ‘Angry Alan’ off Broadway

The three-time Emmy Award nominee and star of The Office will lead the one-man show at the newly revamped Studio Seaview for a limited time this spring.

John Krasinski will return to the New York stage this spring in Angry Alan, a one-man play written by Penelope Skinner and directed by Tony Award winner Sam Gold. The limited engagement runs at Studio Seaview from May 23 to August 3, with opening night on June 11.

Krasinski won a Theatre World Award for his 2016 Off-Broadway debut in Dry Powder and made a one-night-only appearance on Broadway in 2009 as part of the annual The 24 Hour Plays. He is best known, however, for his roles as Jim Halpert on The Office, the title character in Jack Ryan, and Lee Abbott in A Quiet Place and its sequel, which he also directed and co-wrote. He is also a three-time Emmy nominee for co-creating the show Lip Sync Battle.

In Angry Alan, he plays Roger, a divorced, demoted, and drifting man who encounters an online personality that promises him clarity in a world that no longer makes sense to him. The play follows his journey down this internet rabbit hole, examining how far he's willing to go and what he's willing to lose.

“I couldn’t be more excited to be returning to Off-Broadway, and to be surrounded by such a force of talent in Penny and Sam is quite literally a dream scenario,” said John in a statement.

Director Gold is a Tony Award winner for staging the musical Fun Home and was represented on Broadway earlier this year with the Kit Connor and Rachel Zegler-led Broadway revival of Romeo + Juliet.

Additional creative team members for Angry Alan include co-creator Don Mackay, scenic designers dots, costume designer Qween Jean, lighting designer Isabella Byrd, sound designer Mikaal Sulaiman, video designer Lucy MacKinnon, associate director Niamh Jones, vocal coach Kate Wilson, and dramaturg Sarah Lunnie, with properties by Addison Heeren.

Angry Alan is the first production at the newly renamed and revamped Studio Seaview, owned and operated by the film and theatre production company Seaview. The venue was previously called the Tony Kiser Theater, owned and operated by the nonprofit Second Stage Theater for its Off-Broadway shows.
