Grace McLean to star in award-winning musical 'Penelope' this fall

The new one-woman musical Penelope has joined Classic Stage Company's 2026-27 season, running off Broadway from December 10-20 only. Opening night is December 11.

Penelope is a retelling of The Odyssey from the perspective of Odysseus's wife, Penelope. Grace McLean (Suffs; Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812) will reprise the title role from previous productions at the 2026 Edinburgh Festival Fringe and in D.C., Hudson Valley, and Pennsylvania

Penelope won the 2026 Richard Rodgers Award for Best New Musical from the American Academy of Arts and Letters and received critical acclaim at the Fringe.

The show has music and lyrics by Alex Bechtel; a book by Bechtel, McLean, Eva Steinmetz; direction by Eva Steinmetz; and music direction by Bechtel. Additional creative team members will be announced at a later date.
