Everything you need to know about ‘Celebrity Autobiography’ on Broadway

Celebrity Autobiography features celebrities reading — melodramatically, passionately, ironically — excerpts from other stars’ autobiographies. While they’re reading bits verbatim, the cast focuses on the unintentionally funny, absurd, and overshared details in the memoirs.

From May 16 to September 6, Celebrity Autobiography plays on Broadway at the Shubert Theatre, located at 225 W. 44th St. between Seventh and Eighth Avenues.

The theatre is named after Sam S. Shubert, one of the founding brothers of the Shubert Organization, which operates this and 16 other Broadway venues.

Recent plays and musicals that have run at the theatre include Hell’s Kitchen, Some Like It Hot, POTUS, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Hello, Dolly!

The running time of Celebrity Autobiography is 90 minutes with no intermission.

Most weeks through September 6, Celebrity Autobiography plays Wednesday through Monday, with two performances on Saturdays and Sundays and no performances on Tuesdays or Wedsnesdays.

Celebrity Autobiography on Broadway has no official age advisory. Some memoirs may contain suggestive material. Children under age 4 are not permitted in Broadway theatres.

Eugene Pack and Dayle Reyfel first tested out the concept for the show in 1998 at performance spaces in Los Angeles. The show was turned into a Bravo TV special in 2005, and three years later, it made its Off-Broadway debut. Since then, the show has been presented across the U.S. and internationally, in London and Sydney.

Celebrity Autobiography was created by writer/performer Eugene Pack, who co-developed the show with Dayle Reyfel. In addition to co-directing, Pack and Reyfel host and appear in the show alongside the celebrity performers.

Pack was nominated for an Emmy Award in Outstanding Writing for Variety, Comedy, or Music for the special America: A Tribute to Heroes. Reyfel’s credits include being a producer and performer of The Pack Podcast.

Celebrity Autobiography features a rotating cast of over 30 stars throughout its Broadway residency. Most stars appear for a week or two at a time; others, just for a night or two. Surprise performers will also pop in from time to time.

Some of the biggest names announced so far include Christie Brinkley, Mario Cantone, Chloe Fineman, Kathy Griffin, Jeff Hiller, Jackie Hoffman, Ken Jeong, Gayle King, Susan Lucci, Ralph Macchio, Andrea Martin, Laraine Newman, Billy Porter, Tony Shalhoub, Sherri Shepherd, Molly Shannon, Kenan Thompson, Jennifer Tilly, Nia Vardalos, and Rita Wilson, who's also a producer on the show.

Celebrity Autobiography on Broadway will be in the running for the 2026-27 season’s upcoming New York awards. Previously, in 2009, the Off-Broadway production won the Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience.

Celebrity Autobiography has had a number of noteworthy productions since its development in Los Angeles.

• December 2008: The show premieres off Broadway at the Triad Theatre.
• October 2010: The show debuts in London at the Leicester Square Theatre, where one review noted that “wit, wisdom and narcissism of the modestly talented are hilariously laid bare.”
• November 2018: Celebrity Autobiography premieres on Broadway for a three-performance run at the Marquis Theatre.
• May 2026: The show begins at the Shubert Theatre for its first full-length Broadway run.
