'Camelot' to close on Broadway in July
The revival of Lerner and Loewe's classic musical features a revised book by Aaron Sorkin and received five Tony Award nominations at this year's ceremony.
Camelot's reign is coming to an end. Lincoln Center Theater's revival of the Lerner and Loewe musical will close on July 23 at the Vivian Beaumont Theater. At the time of closing, the show will have played 153 total performances.
The revival, which began performances in March, features a book by Oscar-winning writer Aaron Sorkin, revised from Lerner's original. The main story, based on the legends of Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, remains the same.
The young King Arthur and Queen Guenevere usher in a golden age of prosperity in the title kingdom. But when it comes under threat due to an affair between Guenevere and the knight Lancelot, along with a bid for the throne by Arthur's son Mordred, Arthur must choose between love and duty.
Camelot earned five 2023 Tony Award nominations, including Best Revival of a Musical and Best Featured Actor in a Musical for Jordan Donica as Lancelot. The principal cast also includes Tony winner Andrew Burnap as Arthur and Tony nominee Phillipa Soo as Guenevere.
Bartlett Sher directs; he is known for staging critically acclaimed revivals of classic musicals including South Pacific, The King & I, and My Fair Lady.
