St. Ann's Warehouse will present adapter/director Kip Williams's production of The Maids this spring, transferring to NYC straight from an acclaimed run at London's Donmar Warehouse featuring the same cast: Yerin Ha, Phia Saban, and Lydia Wilson. Performances run from May 17 to June 14.

The Maids, originally written in 1947 by Jean Genet, follows two young women, Solange and Claire, who act out their darkest, most murderous fantasies about their abusive employer, Madame. Soon, however, the lines between performance and reality begin to blur. Saban (House of the Dragon) and Olivier Award nominee Wilson (King Charles III) star as Solange and Claire opposite Ha (Bridgerton season 4) as Madame.

Williams's new version sets the action in the social media age and employs video design by Zakk Hein alongside scenic design by Rosanna Vize. The Maids comes on the heels of Williams's tech-forward adaptation of Oscar Wilde's The Picture of Dorian Gray, which ran internationally to acclaim and earned Succession's Sarah Snook a 2025 Tony Award.

“What most attracted me was the outsized scale of the imagery to which these poor girls aspired, available to them (or anyone for that matter) at the touch of their fingertips on their pocket phones 24/7," said St. Ann's artistic director Susan Feldman in a statement about The Maids. "With a click their deepest hopes burst into fleeting reality with unforgettable size and power, creating false memories and broken dreams one after the other, consuming them with what they could never attain in real life. It’s a modern tragedy pushed to the nth degree.”
