Bobby Conte to star in ‘Copperfield! The New Musical’ off Broadway this fall

Adapted from the classic Charles Dickens novel David Copperfield, the show will come to The Duke on 42nd Street starting in late September.

Copperfield! The New Musical, an adaptation of Charles Dickens’s 1850 novel David Copperfield, will premiere off Broadway this fall at The Duke on 42nd Street. The limited run begins September 29 ahead of an October 19 opening.

In Copperfield! The New Musical, actor/musicians perform the story of young David as he comes of age and overcomes hardships at home, school, and work in England. Dickens’s original novel is one of his most famous and most autobiographical.

Bobby Conte (Company, The Who’s Tommy, A Bronx Tale The Musical on Broadway) will star as David Copperfield, with additional casting to be announced. A workshop presentation in May, also starring Conte, featured Amelia Cormack, Brandon James Ellis, Bryan Fenkart, Calvin Knegten, Kara Mikula, Morgan Morse, Aaron Michael Ray, Alexander Sovronsky, Cathryn Wake, Tatiana Wechsler, and Spiff Wiegand.

The show is written by Jeffrey Scharf and directed and choreographed by Gabriel Barre, with orchestrations and arrangements by Sonny Paladino. Additional creative team members will also be announced later.
