Let us paint you a picture: Bobby Cannavale, James Corden, and Neil Patrick Harris will star in Art on Broadway, the first revival of Yasmina Reza's award-winning play. Performances will run at the Music Box Theatre from August 28 to December 21, with opening night on September 16.
Tony Award nominee and Emmy winner Bobby Cannavale (The Watcher) will play Marc, Tony and Emmy winner James Corden (The Late Late Show with James Corden) is Yvan, and Tony and Emmy Award Neil Patrick Harris (How I Met Your Mother) plays Serge. Art follows three longtime friends who fall into debates over taste, money, and of course, art when one spends a fortune on a plain white painting.
Reza's play premiered on Broadway in 1998, when it won the Tony Award for Best Play. Christopher Hampton (Sunset Boulevard) translates the script for this revival, which is directed by Scott Ellis (Pirates! The Penzance Musical, Take Me Out).
“On behalf of my partners Adam Speers, Gavin Kalin, and myself, we are thrilled to be producing the first-ever Broadway revival of this iconic Tony-Award winning play with three iconic, award-winning actors, Bobby Cannavale, James Corden, and Neil Patrick Harris, under the helm of the legendary Scott Ellis,” said producer Michael Shulman in a statement. “Ever since I first saw the original production, it has been etched into my mind as a hysterical and moving portrayal of friendship, compromise, and the power of art to change perspectives.”
Additional creative team members have yet to be announced.
