Beanie Feldstein and Jane Lynch to depart 'Funny Girl' on Broadway
They will play their final performances in September.
Goodbye, gorgeous. Two stars of the Funny Girl Broadway revival, Beanie Feldstein and Jane Lynch, are set to exit the production in the fall. They will remain with the show for 14 more weeks, through September 25.
Feldstein plays the lead role of Fanny Brice in this musical about the real-life Ziegfeld Follies showgirl of the same name, who puts her career on the line for a risky romance with gambler Nick Arnstein (Ramin Karimloo). Lynch plays Mrs. Rosie Brice, Fanny's mother.
In an Instagram post, Feldstein said of her departure in part, "I'll never be able to find the words that could even begin to explain what the experience has been to me. To every single person that brings Funny Girl to life on stage every day at the August Wilson... I love you. You're my people. I am forever changed by knowing you.
"I gave and will continue to give this show all of me. I am immensely proud to be a bagel on a plate full of onion rolls. I am so deeply grateful for every other bagel that comes to Henry Street with us every night. Can't wait to see you all there through September."
Replacement casting for Feldstein and Brice has yet to be announced. The two male leads, Karimloo and Jared Grimes (who got a 2022 Tony nomination for his performance as Eddie Ryan), will remain with Funny Girl.
The 2022 Funny Girl production is the musical's first Broadway revival; the original show premiered in 1964 with Barbra Streisand as Fanny. The musical, which features famous songs like "Don't Rain on My Parade" and "People," currently plays the August Wilson Theatre.
