The Public Theater has named additional casting for its upcoming production of Antigone (This Play I Read in High School), running from February 26 to March 22 with a March 11 opening night.

Joining the previously announced Celia Keenan-Bolger as the Chorus and Tony Shalhoub as Creon are Susannah Perkins as Antigone, Calvin Leon Smith as Haemon, Haley Wong as Ismene, Katie Kreisler as Cop 1/Proprietor, Dave Quay as Cop 2/Palace Guard, and Ethan Dubin as Cop 3/Achilles.

Antigone (This Play I Read in High School) reimagines the ancient Greek story of Oedipus's daughter Antigone as the story of an independent young woman determined to control her own body in a kingdom that tries to control it.

“I wrote this Antigone adaptation hoping to capture how absurd, painful, and deeply human it feels to navigate the moral minefields of our moment,” playwright Anna Ziegler said in a statement. “I’m so excited to bring it to The Public, a theater that has shaped my imagination for decades and welcomes nuance and conversation. My hope is that audiences leave with a renewed appreciation for Antigone’s bravery—and also a sense, however begrudging, of how hard it is to lead other human beings, even as so many of our own leaders fall short.”

Tyne Rafaeli directs the production, and the show also features scenic design by David Zinn, costume design by Enver Chakartash, lighting design by Jen Schriever, sound design and composition by Daniel Kluger, and prop management by Claire M. Kavanah.
