About Sea Wall
In Simon Stephens’ Sea Wall, things for Alex are good. He loves his wife, his young daughter, his city and his work. But without warning, the life he thought he could depend on slips out from beneath his feet. Told with disarming humor and extraordinary intimacy, Stephens’ quietly devastating monologue moves from the seemingly ordinary details of family life toward something far deeper — an exploration of love, faith, grief and the terrifying uncertainty that can lie beneath the surface of a happy life. Intimate, funny and profoundly moving, Sea Wall is the portrait of a man attempting to make sense of the unimaginable — and of the love, memories and questions that remain when the world as we know it suddenly shifts beneath our feet.

“Andrew Scott delivers a masterclass in raw, intimate acting”
A Masterful Solo Performance Worth Every Tear

- Breathtaking
You’ll Love This If…
- You appreciate extraordinary solo performances by a world-class actor
- You enjoy stripped-down theater that relies purely on craft and storytelling
- You're comfortable with emotionally heavy material about grief and loss
Incredible acting from Andrew Scott. He is mesmerizing
For the foreseeable future, I’m describing it as the best theatre I’ve seen in my life. I’ve never heard such silence in a Broadway or off-Broadway audience. Andrew Scott is one of the finest actors there is, proving that with a great text and good direction, you don’t need to shout all the time to express emotion, as seems to be the fashion these days — you can whisper, you can hold a long, long pause, and the audience will be there with you every millisecond. No stage set, plain lighting, the whole play is done in about 50 minutes, but we came out having just lived a life story together with the man on stage. That is talent in its purest form, and it is how the bar I’ll be measuring the rest of the craft by.
A master class in acting. A tour de force.
