About Human Things
Greg and Margaret are on the rocks. More specifically - they are on an atoll in the South Pacific where Margaret is studying a dwindling population of migratory birds and Greg is doing... something. He's not quite sure what he's doing, actually. He's doing his best.
When Bo and Darce arrive, stranded, having crashed their beloved Hula-Hoop into a nearby coral reef – they bring with them a storm that threatens to reshape the world in ways both big and small.

An excessively talky two-hander soon morphs into an excessively talky four-hander...a twist at the end of Act I begets even more surprises in Act II...and then, it all comes to a screeching halt in a far-fetched finale that is as mystifying as it is mysterious. Living alone with her husband on a remote Pacific island, a young woman spends her days charting the local bird population. They're having their problems--that much is clear from the start--and when another, older couple arrives following a boating accident, the dynamic changes significantly. There's a lot to like here--the lighting and sound effects that are used to depict the terrifying typhoon in Act I are spectacular, and the performances, like the FX, go an awfully long way toward making us forget about the shortcomings of the mediocre, occasionally repetitive script. But what, exactly, does the title even refer to? And what is the meaning of the ending? In some ways, "Human Things" may be unlike anything you've seen on stage before. In others, unfortunately, it may be a lot of sound and fury signifying nothing. Recommended, with reservations.
At its strongest leaning into wit, irreverence, mystique, and humor. Also, Victoria Clarke!
Early draft play on personal agency/purpose. Just to see Victoria with a potty mouth. Two couples collide in a catastrophic storm with disagreements on life. Maybe not your thing: many plot holes / character decisions that don't make sense. Some interesting philosophical bits on purpose of life but don't fit/come together. Uneven writing —Victoria got the better lines. Must leave theater during intermission. Diversity: no. All cis straight White cast and characters. Two women from lower socioeconomic backgrounds. 1 hour 55 mins; 1 intermission
