About Garry Starr: Classic Penguins
Get Garry Starr: Classic Penguins tickets on New York Theatre Guide to see the American premiere of this hilarious solo show — performed mostly naked (with flipper fins on). Garry Starr: Classic Penguins in New York City brings rising comedian Damien Warren-Smith and his beloved alter ego to the stage, with the play running for a limited time only, September 3–October 4, 2026. Coming to one of New York's most celebrated new theatre companies, Garry Starr: Classic Penguins plays at Studio Seaview in Midtown Manhattan.
In this hit show, Garry Starr fears books are going extinct and as such must — simply must — recite every book from the Penguin Classic catalogue for you, all in just an hour. Can he do it? Famous titles, from The Little Prince to Moby Dick and everything in between, will factor into the performance, shared in a way you've never heard before.
Cal McCrystal directs Garry Starr: Classic Penguins off Broadway following the play's lauded global run. At the 2018 Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Garry Starr: Classic Penguins was nominated for both Best Newcomer and The Golden Gibbo awards. It also racked up a number of United Kingdom prizes and has played in London’s West End, Sydney, Melbourne, and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.
Audiences can expect a singular performer who has studied acting, clowning, and mime work at Actors Centre Australia in Sydney, the École Philippe Gaulier in Paris, and the Atelier des Mimes in Berlin. Studio Seaview is known for its bold, contemporary programming that introduces audiences to new stars, so expect a special evening of performance with the one and only Garry Starr. Warren-Smith is also known for his work Greece Lightning that picked up awards in Adelaide, Sydney, Gothenburg, and Manchester.
