Midnight in New York City represents a major career step for Hall, who is no stranger to Broadway after appearing in Memphis and The Color Purple. Now, he steps into a creative role, debuting the musical he has been workshopping for years. “Keep going, Little Toddy,” Hall told People Magazine, discussing his life as a Black queer boy growing up in Texas. “People aren't going to understand you. You're going to spend a lot of time looking in the mirror and crying and wishing you could change so many things about yourself. But those scars are going to end up being your superpowers, and you're going to be able to change the world. One gay musical at a time.”

In addition to Hall, the cast includes Jeremy Beloate, Jimmy Brewer, Kennedy Caughell, Dwayne Clark, Sidney DuPont, Ayana George, Autumn Hurlbert, Kolbi Jordan, Sarah Lynn Marion, Ciaran McCarthy, and Charlotte Odusanya.
