Gabi returns home to Texas to help her mother care for her dying grandmother. As María hovers on the threshold of life, experiencing ecstatic visions of demons and angels from her hospital bed, Gabi balances on a threshold of her own. With startling clarity and sly wit, The Annunciation traces three generations of Mexican-American women to confront the overlapping crises of morals and faith at the heart of the nation today, inviting us to consider our personal and political identities — and to ask how they might be reimagined.
