See this four-star "heavenly romance" (London Theatre). Heather Agyepong and Daniel Ezra star in Benedict Lombe's acclaimed drama, which transferred after a successful run to London's West End where it was nominated for the Olivier Award for Best New Play.

Shifters off Broadway follows Dre and Des, who are young, gifted, and Black. She left, but he stayed, and their relationship was never the same. What happens when they reconnect? Shifters traces how two people come roaring back into each other's lives, illuminating the space between memory and reality, past and future. Sometimes, it is the people we know deepest who test the boundaries of what a relationship can truly hold.

Reviewing the play and commenting on Lombe's other celebrated work, London Theatre wrote, "Lightning would look to be striking twice at the Bush Theatre for Benedict Lombe, the Congolese-British author whose debut play Lava in 2021 went on to win the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize. That solo work has since been followed by Shifters, which brought my Bush audience enthusiastically to its feet."

Agyepong reprises her role from London, with London Theatre calling her "luminous." The play offers two actors a stunning dynamic to inhabit and an audience the chance to witness experts at their craft unravel a singular story about longitudinal relationships, how love ebbs and flows, and the universal impact of time on two souls.

Known for her award-winning Donmar Warehouse production of Sweat, Standard Theatre Award Lynette Linton is a keen stager of contemporary dramas. She continues her journey with this play, bringing Shifters to New York. The BAFTA-nominated Brit is also artistic director at The Bush Theatre, where this play was staged before heading to the West End.
