Get Montauk tickets when they go on sale on New York Theatre Guide to see this riveting drama that stars three-time Oscar nominee and four-time Emmy winner Laura Linney. Montauk plays at Manhattan Theatre Club's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre starting spring of 2027, and in this production Linney is the inaugural artist-in-residence at the nonprofit theatre company. Montauk on Broadway follows an artist and a writer as they question one another's approach to creativity, and how those differing approaches unravel their lives.
Montauk in New York City is a spellbinding drama and a world premiere from a theatre known for developing and producing smart plays and Pulitzer Prize winners, like Doubt, Proof, and more. Over a decade, the play traces the romance and professional entanglements of two creatives: Jared Speight, a stubborn artist who is a star of Long Island abstraction, and celebrated writer Roxy Margaux, who can't help but fall for his bravado, charm, and smarts. But the closer the two get, the more they question the others' concept of boundaries in life and art.
Fiercely intelligent, this unique play asks cosmic and practical questions about our passions, and the sacrifices we make for their success. Audiences can expect a taut production with standout performances from artists working at the top of their game.
Laura Linney is no stranger to playing complicated women on stage and screen: she is also a five-time Tony Award nominee and previously collaborated with director Daniel Sullivan on Summer, 1976 and Lillian Hellman’s The Little Foxes. Sullivan, a Tony Award winner, directs this new play from two-time Olivier Award winner David Hare (Plenty, Skylight), who is particularly skilled at putting characters in intimate, and suffocating, scenarios that make them question their needs and personhood.
