About TRU
Get TRU tickets on New York Theatre Guide to see Tony Award winner Jesse Tyler Ferguson star as legendary writer Truman Capote in this one-of-a-kind solo show. TRU plays for a limited time only uptown at the Library of the House of the Redeemer in uptown Manhattan.
TRU off Broadway looks at a single destructive night in the life of the Breakfast at Tiffany's author as he reels from the fact that he may have lost his closest circle of elite friends. The play offers Ferguson, star of Modern Family, a juicy role in this unique staging at a mansion first owned by a great-granddaughter of Cornelius Vanderbilt.
TRU, by Jay Presson Allen and directed by Tony winner Rob Ashford (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, Frozen), is taken straight from the words of Capote himself. The play is set in December 1975 in Capote's apartment, which this production brings to life via its site-specific performance.
In a statement, star Ferguson said, "I have long been fascinated by Truman Capote — both the man and his writing—and it is the honor of my career to be entrusted with playing him in the first New York revival of TRU. From the moment Rob Ashford and I first discussed the idea, I envisioned an intimate, environmental experience. I can't wait for audiences to encounter this play up close in the uniquely intimate, historic House of the Redeemer."
Ashford added, “I had the great pleasure of directing Jesse in a staged reading of TRU as a one-night-only charity benefit in Tangier, Morocco, the summer of 2024. He was mesmerizing! He captured the truth of the man, his humor, and heartbreak. I’m thrilled that we get the opportunity to further explore this great pairing of actor and character."

Phenomenal! Acting was spectacular
The acting and setting are phenomenal. The story is very basic and if you already know a little bit about Truman Capote, you won’t learn anything new. Excellent performance but the content is too basic to be engaging.
Beautiful setting and an outstanding one man show
