Get Music City tickets on New York Theatre Guide to step into the intoxicating world of country music: at the Wicked Tickle, the drinks are flowing and the songs are booming. Music City off Broadway transports audiences to a Nashville honkey-tonk, sharing the story of singer-songwriters on the rise as they pour drinks and their hearts out to audiences hungry for the next big star.
Music City in New York is a jukebox musical featuring songs by Billboard Chart-topper J.T. Harding, whose songs have been recorded by Darius Rucker, Keith Urban, Blake Shelton, Uncle Kracker, Dierks Bently, and Florida Georgia Line. The musical features some of those hit songs, including "Smile," "Sangria," and "Somewhere In My Car."
After extending three times at a run uptown and earning two Drama Desk Award nominations, including for Outstanding Musical, Music City now relocates to Midtown at 512 West 42nd Street, a new venue that will be designed specifically for this show, taking audiences to a Nashville dive.
The musical was first staged by the theater company Bedlam, and Bedlam artistic director Eric Tucker directs the show with a book by Peter Zinn.
“The Wicked Tickle feels like Nashville’s Broadway dropped right into the middle of Manhattan – loud, alive, and full of stories,” Harding said in a statement. “The run at Bedlam was a dream come true, and the great critical and audience response meant the world to us. Taking the show to midtown feels like opening the doors even wider, letting the music, the stories, and the heart of this show reach an even bigger audience.”
Jukebox musicals aren't new, but one that centers the vibrant world of country music is rarer, making this new show a treat for anyone who's been to — or wants to feel teleported to — the heart of Nashville. Tickets to Music City are available now.
