Get Data tickets on New York Theatre Guide to see this explosive and timely new drama from Matthew Libby that The Washington Post said "examines the fallible human beings behind the algorithms." Data in New York is a topical story about how easily people give up their information, and how far tech companies will go to exploit it. Data plays for a limited run only, for 11 weeks at the Lucille Lortel Theatre beginning January 9, 2026. Drama Desk nominee Tyne Rafaeli (Weather Girl, Selling Kabul) directs this New York premiere.
In Data, go behind the locked doors of Silicon Valley. There, a newcomer is a brilliant entry-level programmer at a massive data-mining firm. Soon after joining, though, he has a crisis of conscience when he learns the true nature of the company's highly controversial and secretive work. Torn between idealism and survival, the programmer is forced to come to terms with his identity, beliefs, and career, all while learning the extent to which one firm is willing to go to hide its secrets.
“When we first discovered Matthew Libby’s thrilling new play Data, we were immediately struck by how powerfully it speaks to our current moment,” said the play's producers in a joint statement. “It’s an innovative, fast-paced play exploring the tension between technology and morality. With an extraordinary cast bringing these characters to life, we’re excited to share this prescient and gripping work with audiences at the Lortel Theatre this winter.”
Karan Barr (Jessie), Brandon Flynn (13 Reasons Why), Sophia Lillis (It), and Justin H. Min (The Umbrella Academy) star in this new play that had its live premiere at Arena Stage in Washington, DC.
