Get Cold War Choir Practice tickets on New York Theatre Guide to see Ro Reddick's hit play return this winter after its acclaimed run at Clubbed Thumb downtown last summer. A New York Times Critic's Pick, Cold War Choir Practice plays for a limited run starting February 21 at at The Newman Mills Theatre at the Robert W. Wilson MCC Theatre Space.
"Dear Santa, for Christmas this year I want a Pound Puppy, a Speak + Spell, and a nuclear radiation detector." So begins a young girl's strange Christmas wish list, and a play about even stranger events that unfold over one family reunion during the holidays in upstate New York. A co-production between MCC, Clubbed Thumb, and Page 73, Cold War Choir Practice is a fugue of Reaganomics, espionage, roller disco, and cults. Adding to the curiosity, the play is underscored by the enigmatic Syracuse chapter of the Seedlings of Peace Children’s Chorus.
Now, the play returns, again directed by Tony Award nominee Knud Adams, who directed consecutive winners for the Pulitzer Prize for Drama: English and Primary Trust.
Clubbed Thumb, who launched this play, is known for funny and strange works lasting just 90 minutes or less. Cold War Choir Practice off Broadway is certainly in that mold: it's a "brainy new comedy...infused with choral music and spiked with espionage" per The New York Times. Other hit Clubbed Thumb shows include Pulitzer Prize finalist What the Constitution Means to Me, plus Grief Hotel and Deep Blue Sound, which also enjoyed return engagements following their Summerworks bows.
It's now time for another hit to return, and Cold War Choir Practice promises a zany, memorable play with, according to The New York Times, "a jewel-studded cast."
1hr 45min. No intermission.
Ages 4+. Children under the age of four are not permitted into the theaters.
