About Gruesome Playground Injuries

Get Gruesome Playground Injuries tickets on New York Theatre Guide to see three-time Emmy Award nominee Nicholas Braun (Succession) and two-time Tony Award winner Kara Young (Purlie Victorious, Purpose) join forces in this startling, gripping drama. Gruesome Playground Injuries plays for a limited run this November and December only at the Lucille Lortel Theatre downtown. Tony Award nominee Neil Pepe (American Buffalo) directs Pulitzer Prize Finalist Rajiv Joseph's hit play.

“Irresistibly odd and exciting” (NY Daily News), Gruesome Playground Injuries off Broadway brings together two titans of modern entertainment: Braun is an icon for his work as bumbling cousin Greg on one of TV's most lauded series, Succession, and Young is the first African-American actress to win two consecutive Tonys.

Now, the two star in this fierce and smart, twisting drama. Over the course of three decades, the lives of Kayleen (Young) and Doug (Braun) intersect at the strangest of intervals, leading the two childhood friends to compare scars and the physical calamities that keep drawing them together. Selma Blair, Jennifer Carpenter, and Pablo Schreiber have all appeared in this taut drama, and now Young and Braun take a whack at the demanding roles.

"I have known and loved Rajiv Joseph's work for years and am thrilled to be directing this seminal play,” said Neil Pepe in a statement. “And to have the opportunity to work with these two extraordinary actors, Kara Young and Nicholas Braun, is a gift."

“Off-Broadway is the beating heart of New York and there is no more thrilling place in the world to present a play than the storied and historic Lucille Lortel Theatre,” stated the producers. “It has been the honor of a lifetime to produce plays with and at The Lortel over the last two years, and we cannot wait for audiences to have the opportunity to revisit Rajiv Joesph’s staggering, transporting, timeless and healing work this fall on Christopher Street.”
