Get Art of Leaving tickets on New York Theatre Guide to see this new comedy about divorce, polyamory, and everything in between. Art of Leaving plays this fall at The Alice Griffin Jewel Box Theatre at Signature Center in Midtown. Written by Anne Marilyn Lucas and directed by Matt Gehring, Art of Leaving is a razor-sharp play about the love, and laughs, that come with breaking up and moving on.
In Art of Leaving off Broadway, 50-something Aaron Katzman got some advice from his eccentric self-help guru: he should get a divorce. His wife, Diana, is not so sure — at all. The news disrupts the entire family, making Diana wonder not just about her role in her marriage but in her role in life.
Complicating matters further, and making them even more hysterical, Aaron and Diana's son is diving into the world of polyamory with his fiancée, while Aaron's aging parents are unraveling hidden secrets of their own. How well do we know our family, our relationship, and ourself? In Lucas's wise and contemporary comedy, family drama, love, and marriage all collide in unexpected and charming ways.
Art of Leaving is debuting this fall and stars Audrey Heffernan Meyer (Diana), Jordan Lage (Aaron), Alan Ceppos (Felix), Pamela Shaw (Esther), Molly Chiffer (Caitlyn), and Brian Mason (Jason). Lucas has written biographical musicals about a number of luminaries, including Leonard Bernstein, Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, and Kander & Ebb, and Gehring has directed over a hundred comedy shows with artists including Alexis Gay, Chloe Troast, Bowen Yang, and Matt Rogers, at venues from the Edinburgh Fringe to Joe’s Pub.
Playing at Signature, the theatre lobby's large Signature Café + Bar offers light fare and a full bar, offering audiences a place to hang out before and after the show. Tickets to Art of Leaving in New York are available now.
