In Mexodus off Broadway, a fresh story reveals an untold historic era: when thousands of people escaped slavery by crossing the Rio Grande into Mexico. You know the story of the Underground Railroad that ran north, but Mexodus takes audiences on the path that ran south. Robinson and Quijada embody an escaped slave and a Mexican farmer as they forge a bond that transcends borders, and the performers tell that story with numerous instruments and live-looping technology to build up the show's musical world in real time. Mexodus reveals a story reclaimed and a legacy repeated.
Mexodus had its world premiere with Baltimore Center Stage and Mosaic Theater Company before it moved to Berkley Repertory Theatre. Now, it comes to New York City to wow audiences with award-winning might: the show won three Helen Hayes Awards, for Outstanding Production of a Musical, Outstanding Lead Performer in a Musical (Quijada), and Outstanding Director of a Musical (David Mendizábal).

This powerful, truth-telling experience includes strong language and references to racism, racial violence, and sexual abuse; all essential to the story and handled with care. Younger audiences are welcome at a parent or guardian's discretion.
