Get ||: Girls :||: Chance :||: Music :|| tickets when they go on sale on New York Theatre Guide to see the newest play from Pulitzer Prize finalist Eisa Davis. ||: Girls :||: Chance :||: Music :|| plays for a limited run this spring downtown at Vineyard Theatre, staged as a co-production with American Conservatory Theater and directed by Pam MacKinnon (a Tony Award winner for Edward Albee’s Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf?).
||: Girls :||: Chance :||: Music :|| off Broadway is the story of four girls who meet, make art, and grow at a prestigious summer camp for rising musicians in Berkeley, California. Navigating friendship and competition is one thing, as shows like The Wolves and Dance Nation have revealed, but in Davis's smart, funny, and poignant world premiere, there are other forces tearing the girls apart. As the world beyond their sanctuary of a camp intensifies with emergency and fear on the horizon, the four girls at the heart of this story must find new ways to improvise on stage and off. * ||: Girls :||: Chance :||: Music :||* in New York is a unique type of show: first, it is a play with music, and, at each show, the music changes based on the actor's performance. The world beyond camp is unpredictable, and as such each show is its own work of art. In Davis's exacting, hilarious, and aching story about coming of age under pressure, what does it mean to make something beautiful when everything might fall apart?
In addition to being a writer, Davis is also an actress who has been seen on hit TV shows including Succession and Mare of Easttown. Now, she returns to New York with a profound and wise work about the joys, laughs, and heartbreaks of coming of age.
