At a high school in a one-stoplight town in Georgia, an English class is reading The Crucible. It’s a bit of a snooze — especially as the students have love, sex, and some scandals on the mind — until the students begin debating the terms of the literary classic. Perspective is subjective, and no one seems to agree on whether John Proctor is actually the hero in this story.

In her play, Belflower captures a generation on the cusp of adulthood figuring out their values while fueled by pop music, optimism, and fury — and an increasingly clear understanding that their future is not dictated by their past. Tony Award winner Danya Taymor (The Outsiders) directs.
