Experience Hold on to Me Darling off Broadway to find out: in Kenneth Lonergan’s moving and funny 2016 play, now enjoying its first major revival, country singer superstar Strings McCrane (Driver) returns home to discover what has, and has not, changed in the years since he left.

After learning of his mother’s death, Strings falls into an existential tailspin. Following years on the road and living a lavish lifestyle, he seeks out a change and decides to trade big arenas for small towns and heads back to Tennessee. The simple life he craves, however, turns out to be anything but simple. His success and the influential power of his stardom are impossible to outrun. If home can’t provide comfort, maybe it can provide answers?

Lonergan, a three-time Tony Award nominee, is known for his plays This is Our Youth, Lobby Hero, and The Waverly Gallery, which was a Pulitzer Prize finalist. However, like Driver, he’s also known to wider audiences for his screen work.

Driver made a splash on the TV show Girls, earning three Emmy nominations, and Lonergan wrote and won an Academy Award for Manchester by the Sea. Now, both return to the stage in this highly anticipated and acutely observed drama directed by Neil Pepe, Artistic Director of Atlantic Theater Company.
