About Spring Awakening
It's the fall of Spring Awakening: The Tony Award winner for Best Musical is returning to New York City. Frank Wedekind’s once-banned 1891 play became a musical sensation thanks to Steven Sater and Duncan Sheik’s landmark score, which features hit songs like "The Song of Purple Summer," "Mama Who Bore Me," "Those You've Known," and "The Bitch of Living." Now, Tony Award winner Danya Taymor (The Outsiders, John Proctor Is the Villain) directs this highly anticipated Off-Broadway revival — get Spring Awakening tickets now.
Teenagers Melchior, Wendla, Moritz, and their friends are coming of age with no guidance from the adults in their lives. As they search for answers and understanding, they form beautiful, yet sometimes tragic, connections. The teens' confusion, anger, and hope pours out through a stirring contemporary rock score, whose original cast album went on to win a Grammy Award.
The show debuted on Broadway in 2006, winning eight Tony Awards and making stars of leads Jonathan Groff, Lea Michele, and John Gallagher Jr. Later revived on Broadway with Deaf West Theatre, and in the West End, where it won the Olivier for Best New Musical. Now, audiences can experience it in a more intimate way than ever at the 300-seat Studio Seaview.
Fierce, honest, compassionate, and unflinching, this production explores the experiences of teenagers caught between desire, repression, fear, and discovery — then and now. Get tickets to Spring Awakening in NYC.
