John Cameron Mitchell

John Cameron Mitchell stars as Mary Todd Lincoln in Oh, Mary! on Broadway at the Lyceum Theatre from February 3 to April 12, 2026.

Mitchell is a Broadway actor, director, and writer best known for the musical Hedwig and the Angry Inch, for which he wrote the book. He went on to write, direct, and play the title role in the 2001 movie musical adaptation, and he starred in the musical's Broadway-premiere production for a stint in 2015.

Additional Broadway credits include acting in The Secret Garden, Six Degrees of Separation, and Big River. He also has dozens of screen credits; notable directing credits include the film adaptation of the play Rabbit Hole and episodes of Nurse Jackie and GLOW. Notable screen acting credits include playing Gabe in Aidy Bryant's TV series Shrill and Joe Exotic in Joe vs. Carole opposite Kate McKinnon.
